Where to sell designer clothes in the UK
Your options explained — so you can choose how much of the selling you want to do yourself.
You can list designer clothes on a marketplace such as Vinted or eBay, use a managed consignment service such as SecondSplit, or seek an offer from a direct buyer. The right route depends on your items, the time you can give and whether you need payment before an item finds its next owner.
Not sure what you have? Start with a few photos, the brands and a short note about condition.

Three ways to give your clothes a new home
A wardrobe clear-out can mean one handbag, a few premium jackets or a collection of pieces you no longer wear. Before choosing a service, consider the condition and likely demand for each item, alongside the work you want to take on.
List them yourself
On a self-listing marketplace, you prepare the listing and manage the sale. Vinted’s guide describes taking photos, writing a description, setting a price and packing and sending the item when it sells. eBay also lets registered sellers create their own listings.
May suit you if: you enjoy selling online and want to manage individual items yourself.
Use a managed service
A consignment service sells accepted items on your behalf and retains an agreed share or commission. At SecondSplit, we collect, prepare, photograph and list your clothes, then handle buyers, packing and postage.
May suit you if: you have suitable pieces but would prefer someone else to handle the selling.
Ask a direct buyer
Some businesses offer to buy selected items outright. Ask whether an offer is provisional, what happens after inspection and when payment is made. Brands accepted, valuations and terms vary between businesses.
May suit you if: an agreed upfront purchase matters more to you than waiting for a consignment sale.
SecondSplit offers a managed selling service. Payment follows a sale and clearance under your agreement.
Compare the routes at a glance
This compares the general selling models. Individual providers have different rules, services and payment terms, so check those before sending anything.
| What matters to you? | Self-listing marketplace | SecondSplit consignment | Direct buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photos and listings | You create your listing. | We prepare and list accepted items. | You supply what the buyer needs to assess an offer. |
| Price | You choose your listing price, subject to platform options. | We agree prices with you before listing. | The buyer makes an offer for you to consider. |
| Packing and dispatch | You arrange dispatch under the platform’s process. | We handle dispatch to the eventual buyer. | You follow the buyer’s sending or collection process. |
| Your proceeds | Depend on the sale price and applicable costs. | Your agreed share, calculated under your agreement. | The final accepted purchase offer. |
| When you are paid | After a sale, according to the platform’s rules. | After a sale and clearance, on our fortnightly payment schedule. | According to the buyer’s inspection and payment terms. |
No route guarantees a particular price. A consignment or marketplace listing does not guarantee a sale.
How SecondSplit fits in
We focus on designer and premium clothing, distinctive vintage pieces, quality shoes, bags and accessories with resale potential. Items should be clean, wearable and in good condition.
We arrange free collection: in person where available, or via DPD elsewhere in the UK. After assessing accepted items, we prepare the photographs, measurements and listings, with selling prices agreed before anything goes live.
Items are listed for six weeks: four weeks at the agreed price, followed by two at the agreed minimum. We use suitable resale marketplaces and the SecondSplit shop; this can include eBay.
You can follow your items and earnings in your personal dashboard. Once a sale clears, eligible earnings are paid on our fortnightly schedule, provided no return, refund, dispute or claim is pending.

What to send us for an initial assessment
You do not need a finished listing. A few clear photographs help us understand what you have and advise on suitability.
- A full view of each item in good light, including the back where useful.
- The brand and size labels plus any useful material or care labels.
- Close-ups of condition include wear, marks, repairs or damage.
- A short note with the number of items, your collection area and any useful purchase details. Proof of purchase can help where available; it does not guarantee acceptance.
We assess suitability before agreeing to sell. Please describe items accurately and send only pieces you are entitled to sell.
A few questions before you start
Where is the best place to sell designer clothes?
There is no single best option for every wardrobe. A self-listing marketplace may suit you if you want to manage the process yourself. A managed service may suit you if convenience matters more. If you need an outright offer, check the terms of a direct buyer. Compare likely proceeds, workload and payment timing together.
Can someone sell my clothes for me?
Yes. SecondSplit sells suitable accepted clothing and accessories on your behalf. We agree prices with you, handle preparation and listings, manage the buyer and dispatch, and pay your agreed share after the sale clears.
Will SecondSplit buy my clothes immediately?
Our service is consignment: we sell accepted items on your behalf. We do not promise an immediate cash purchase or a guaranteed sale. Contact us if you would like help deciding whether this approach suits you.
How much will I receive?
It depends on the selling price, applicable marketplace fees and your agreement. Standard shares range from 50% to 60% of the commission basis for each item. The full explanation, including minimum protection and personalised agreements, is on our How It Works page.
What happens if my clothes do not sell?
After six weeks, you can choose return at your delivery cost, donation to an approved charity, or authorise a single seven-day eBay auction starting at £19.99. The auction may finish below the previous minimum and does not have the six-week minimum protection. See the full options and terms before choosing.
Can I ask about just a few items?
Send us photos and tell us what you have. We will advise whether your pieces are suitable and discuss the next step with you.
Still deciding where to sell?
Send us a few photos of your clothes, shoes or bags. We’ll let you know whether they look suitable for SecondSplit and explain how our service would work for you.

The £19.99 final-auction starting price applies to agreements not yet sent for approval. Agreements already sent or signed retain their agreed terms. Donation remains your choice; items are donated only with your authorisation.
